Halloween, S.C. Gets a 4,500 Sq. Ft. Makeover: Our Bojangles Building Wrap in Conway

Bojangles4

Every October, Conway, South Carolina becomes Halloween, S.C. The city commits fully: more than 200 events across the month, movie-themed districts downtown and along the Waccamaw Riverwalk, costume parades, coffin races and free Friday-night films. This year, the Bojangles on Church Street joined the celebration in a way no one driving past could miss. Capital Wraps put Halloween on the building itself.

A Restaurant Dressed for the Season

Bojangles went all in on the City of Halloween. The Church Street location is hosting its first-ever Bite Night: guests in costume get a free Bite Box with Bo Bites and Donut Bites, plus trick-or-treat tote bags, custom squishies and an outdoor screening of Beetlejuice on a giant screen with stadium seating and popcorn.

An event like that needs a building that looks the part. Working alongside Bojangles and Capital Sign Solutions, Capital Wraps produced and installed a 2,000-square-foot Halloween wrap across the restaurant’s exterior.

Brick: One of the Hardest Surfaces in the Business

Standard wrap film is engineered for smooth paint. Put it on brick and it bridges over mortar joints, tents across voids and lifts on the first hot afternoon. Architectural graphics on rough surfaces are a different discipline, and installers across the industry estimate that textured walls take two to three times longer than smooth ones.

Success starts with the material. We printed the graphics on our EFI R32+ using Metamark MetaGrab rough-texture film. Its very high-tack adhesive is built for rough, textured and difficult-to-stick-to surfaces like brick and block. We finished it with a cast laminate, because cast film conforms as it is pushed into texture instead of fighting back. That matters when every brick face and mortar line has to hold for the life of the graphic. The laminate also shields the print from UV and South Carolina weather.

Technique does the rest. Squeegees skip over grooves, so rough-wall installs use heat and pressure. The installer softens the film with a heat gun and drives it into the surface with a heat-resistant roller, keeping the heat just ahead of the roller. Every brick gets that treatment, one at a time: faces first, then the mortar lines, then the edges sealed.

Not every surface on this building was brick. The window area is clad in HardiePlank lap siding, with deep overlapping reveals that create problem edges for film. Instead of forcing vinyl into every lap, we ran 10-foot banner material across that section. It was the right material for the substrate and it gave us cleaner lines.

Three Days, Seven Installers

Our team of seven rolled in Thursday afternoon. Friday morning we were back on the wall at 7:30 a.m. and worked through the most time-consuming part of the job: heating the vinyl down into the brick across the entire building. The full install took three days. The weather cooperated too, with no snow and no hurricane this time, unlike last year.

The result looks like it was painted on. The brick texture and mortar lines read straight through the graphic, so the artwork looks like part of the architecture rather than something stuck on top of it. That is the standard we hold every architectural graphic to, whether it is a seasonal promotion, a permanent mural or a full storefront rebrand.
